Agriculture and food industry have a long tradition in the district. The scope of the created added value ranges from the production of the agricultural raw materials through the food processing to the modern food logistics. As one of the biggest growing area of vegetables in Germany, Spreewald is nationwide an economic region no. 1. In order to identify the regional products there is an internationally protected umbrella brand “Spreewald”, owned by Spreewaldverein.
